Press reviews

Château Saint-Cyrgues has already won many medals in specialized national, general and worldwide competitions.

For many years it has been in the prize winner’s list of  the Grand Guides
(Hachette, Gilbert et Gaillard, Les Sommeliers, Terre de vins etc).
Here are some tasting notes:

Terre de vins, Mars 2006

AOC selection: Chateau Saint-Cyrgues Cuvee Amerique 2002
This vintage with a very strong Syrah predominance has a beautiful deep dark colour with vermilion tinges.
The nose is still dominated by the toasting hints of mocha, its woodiness also brings out hints of spices and of caramel.
In the mouth it is full bodied and well rounded, structured by well blended velvety tannins, with a lingering flavour of sweet spices.
An elegant wine, to be served with  a rich deer steak and cranberry sauce.

Guide Gilbert et Gaillard

Chateau Saint Cyrgues Cuvee Amerique 2003

Intense young red colour. Nose - ripe fruit reminiscent of morello cherry, plum with a sprinkling of vanilla and liquorice. In the mouth a mature, full bodied, silky wine with personalized and lingering flavours.

Wine notes

What I drink
Jane Sacchi travels extensively in French to source the exquisite antique French linens which she sells from her shop in London. She has also developed a new range of linen for upholstery, made in Scotland.
On my regular buying trips to southern France, I often drive through the beautiful Gard region, and I have become curious about the local wines. These are produced on the Costières de Nimes, where the vineyards slope towards the River Rhône. I have discovered a delicious white wine from the same area , Château Saint-Cyrgues, which happily, I can also buy back home. It’s fresh and fruity, and tasted of peaches and apricots.

Guide Hachette 2006

While the main Vintage: Château Saint-Cyrgues Red 2003 gets a star, the Cuvée Amérique wins the panel’s over thanks to its very dark and almost black colour with garnet-red lights. Its nice bouquet is complex and stands out with its ripe fruits, and in retro-olfaction, there are notes of cade, sweet bay and smoke. The generous full palate relies on rich and powerfull tannins. The fruity finish happens to be lightly sweet. A future great wine.

Guide Hachette 2005

Château Saint-Cyrgues Cuvée Amerique 2003

This white wine links undoubtedly tradition and modernity with its brilliant yellow-green colour. The nose is fine and vanilla, still marked by the wood in which it lay for a few months. The already full and ample mouth , with sustained acidity, should round up within one or two years, allowing it to explode its complexity as announced by its long finish. To be served with a fish in slightly spiced cream sauce. Saint-Cyrgues Red has a quote for its fruitiness, suppleness, and softness which promise an immediate pleasure.

Hachette, Château Saint-Cyrgues Cuvee Amerique Red 2001

The aromatic pallet recalls blackcurrant and raspberry as well as spices and smokiness. The ample stable mouth, with its melted but still evident tannins, has a long warm finish. A bottle which reflects the expression of the land and the know how of the Producer

“A pale green harmonious coloured wine, with peach skin aroma, stable in the mouth…” Château Saint-Cyrgues Red 2000 Red fruit and berries (blackcurrant, blueberries) share a bouquet with a spicy touch.

Hachette, Château Saint-Cyrgues red 1999

“… this remarkable red wears a dark purple colour, and a dense nose of blackcurrant buds followed by a rather earthy retro olfaction. The fine and elegant tannins of the mouth, charm by its roundness…”

Hachette, Château Saint-Cyrgues white 1998

Favourite :”…the white which enthuses the Jury with its complex and fine nose, dominated by fresh apricot, which persists at length in a round and very pleasant mouth…”

Terre de Vins :
Château Saint-Cyrgues Cuvée Amerique 1999

“wonderful colour almost black and shimmering. The nose is powerful and racy, with a strong aromatic potential which waits to blossom. After a powerful blast in the mouth, this wine confirms, with its solid and concentrated structure  present and melted tannins, its toasting aroma, and its good aptitude to conservation.
